  26. Or a situation I experienced where a disk had a strange corruption on it.
  27. The fault was finally tracked down to a single bit error in main memory.

  29. This single bit (hard zero) got itself replicated throughout the disk after a 
  30. disk optimiser had been used.  The only problem was that comparatively few bits 
  31. got changed, and by the time the site was SURE there was something wrong,  the 
  32. problem had got itslef into all 5 generations of the backup.

  34. Fixing the bad bit took very little time, and cost next to nothing.

  36. The errors in the users prime databases are probably still being fixed and could 
  37. well have led to being the downfall of the company.
