- I have an interesting, but I dare say, far from unique problem.
-
- I want AGA. I can't really afford an A4000. The A1200 looks ideal in
- terms of price. So far, I'm happy :-).
-
- I have one small problem: A rather large investment in SCSI
- peripherals. Now, I'm not so happy :-).
-
- What shall the wayward A500 user with SCSI interface do with his
- assortment of hard drives and 1/4" tape drives when he purchases an
- A1200 ?
-
- I've read some of the discussions concerning the PCMCIA slot. They
- seemed to indicate that for things like SCSI interfaces, that they are
- conceivable, but less than ideal (perhaps I misinterpreted ?).
-
- It would seem to me that the bus slot is a much better place to put a
- SCSI interface. But I've heard that this slot is on the BOTTOM of the
- case, much like the A500's memory slot. This makes it an interesting
- problem to put just about anything into the "slot". I imagine that
- third party vendors will either make some sort of "cable assembly" or
- some type of platform on which the A1200 sits, which plugs into the
- slot. The cable solution is probably less likely, since I can see how
- one might run into all sorts of problems. The platform solution
- introduces another problem of lifting the unit off of one's table, and
- elevating the keyboard, making it more difficult to type. I imagine
- we'll see either an angled platform, or a very thin platform,
- containing only the electronics and ending in a cable/connector which
- leads to a SCSI device housing. I havn't seen an A1200 yet, but
- perhaps there's enough space to fit an entire SCSI host adapter and RAM
- expansion (well, there's the PCMCIA for that) into the "slot", and run
- a cable out of that to either a MAC type DB-25 or SCSI-2 high-density
- connector.
-
- Yes. I realize that we have a build in IDE interface, and I'd probably
- wind up shoving a drive in there too. But I still have two SCSI HDs and
- one 1/4" tape drive I'd like to use.
-
- Does anyone know of any existing or future plans/solutions, either from CBM
- or elsewhere, which will allow one to hook up SCSI peripherals to an A1200 ?
-
- Thanks,
-
- C'ya,
- Jim
