- To folks at CBM:
-
- Are there any plans for a multiprocessing or RISC based Amiga? My last
- rendering took 25 hours on Lightwave 3-D on a 030/882-25 MHz Amiga for
- just one frame. I hear that the Amiga is capable of multi-threaded
- operations. Will this allow use of symmetric multiprocessing? Will
- there be much changes to the software for this to happen? How about
- RISC chips? Windows NT (And rumors of OS/2) is starting to look nice
- with these features. Can't wait next year for a DEC Alpha based machine
- running Windows NT at 200-400 mips and mflops at regular workstation
- prices. How about graphics copprocessors? Silicon Graphics has them
- for their Iris Crimson workstations that renders in real-time with an
- almost ray-traced quality. But its way out of reach at over $100,000.
- Will the 68060 systems be multiprocessesing? Can the 68040 systems be
- multiprocessing? Radius has such boards for 68040 multiprocessing on
- Macintoshes. Already maximum performance on the macintosh has exceeded
- the Amigas in ray tracing with the Radius boards. Help us videographers
- out here. 25 hours is a whole day of not doing work on the computer.
-
- Just a few thoughts from a bored videographer.
