-
- Seeing as how I'm not looking at the 1200, you can weigh what I say.
-
- The Macs I have to work with use the SUperDrive. The PC's I work
- with have, without exception, HD drives. And this is in a
- University situation! Having the ability to read, if not write the
- data in a common interchange format is USEFUL.
-
- The drive is there, the technology is there, and the need is there.
- Why not have it on the low-end Amiga?
-
- The common arguement given by C= is that 90% of the masses have no use for
- a feature in a low-end machine. I can see several for the 1200:
-
- Data interchange: From exchanging nude .gifs to Postscript files.
- Data backup: Having to use 1/2 the number of disks to back up that
- 'optional' drive.
- Larger system disks: For those that DON'T HAVE the 'optional' drive,
- you can pack on something OTHER than the system onto the
- system disk. (Memacs, arp.library, seomthing other than
- Topaz 8, an archiver....)
-
- BTW: *I* run a 1 disk system floppy, and have *2* drives. The
- thing *I* hate the most is swapping my system disk in and out
- for ANY reason.
-
- Now, again, I disclaim, I'm not your average Amiga user. I'm sort of on the
- extreme low-end. These are things I'd pay $100 extra for. Having an optional
- external HD floppy would also be a marketing plus. I can make a LOT of money
- if C= would supply me with a stream of HD disks.
-
- I really don't understand why C= isn't buying these things like hotcakes
- and selling them through their dealer network. Save for the fact that C=
- might get stuck with a large inventory of DD drives... :)
-
- A HD disk isn't a major selling point to me. It could be construed as
- a value-added option that's going to be used by 100% of the Amiga users.
