- [wiping drool off modem....]
- Sure you can buy one of the many available enhanced display card
- type things, and shove it into yer 3000 and see a lot more colors at
- once. One nifty gizmo is DCTV which takes the input and sends it out
- as NTSC color television, which you can view on a teevee or a monitor
- with composite color inputs. Runs about $400 at Amiga shops. It has
- a built-in digitizer too. DCTV isn't a true "24 bit display", rather
- it's similar in quality to VHS video tape... a few million colors
- with some chroma-crawl or "smearing" depending on the quality of the input.
- DCTV is small external box and works on any Amiga with a few meg'o'RAM.
- Another even prettier (although less flexible) solution is the Impulse
- Firecracker24 RGB Analog display card. It's a Zorro-II full-length card
- you shove into your computer, and can passthru your monitor's signal.
- The display of the FC24 is nothing less than spectacular, true, real
- 24 bit RGB color, every single pixel individually addressable. It doesn't
- get much better or cleaner than this on an Amiga. You can't animate
- on the FC24, it's too slow for that, but the display is so good
- you maynot care :) You can also use it with a 2nd monitor.
-
- Sells for about $800 at dealers.. check c.s.a.marketplace. I've seen
- used units as low as $500 there recently. FC24 comes with a paint
- program which can even drive an Epson Scanner if you add one later.
- And a lot of popular software programs, such as ADPro, Imagine,
- VistaPro2, ImageMaster, and others support it directly.
-
- There are other 24bit and pseudo 24bit units available for the Amiga.
- I own both of the above, their displays are quite different but
- either will display GIF pics or 24 bit files with more color and
- clarity than any "native" Amiga display mode in the 3000.
