  19. JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Engineering Group, and it is a
  20. compression standard developed by several different vendors.  I believe
  21. the compression scheme is in the public domain.  It is based on Discrete
  22. Cosine Transforms (DCT's) and is a lossy compression scheme.  I suggest
  23. anyone interested look in the comp.compression newsgroup.
