  12. During the last few weeks I fixed a couple of particularly nasty bugs in
  13. `term' v2.4. These include:
  14.  
  15. - System bell would not work correctly and the bell modes visual and audible were
  16.   swapped.
  17.  
  18. - The  clipboard  line  and  character  delay  were  swapped in the corresponding
  19.   settings menu.
  20.  
  21. - Changed  the  way incoming characters are translated; the translation now takes
  22.   place  before text is to be printed.  This avoids unnecessary side-effects with
  23.   terminal  control  sequences  whose  components  (such  as the control sequence
  24.   introducer) may get changed before they are passed to the parser.
  25.  
  26. - The  XPR  interface  no  longer causes xprzmodem.library and its kin to fail on
  27.   downloads.   The  corresponding  code  used to return more data than requested,
  28.   causing  rather  serious trouble.  Far more difficult to find was the bug which
  29.   caused  the  xprzmodem.library  to  break  down,  the  cause  was the baud rate
  30.   calculation  which was wrong.  In previous releases, serial write actions would
  31.   not include a carrier signal check, it does now.

  33. - The  text  output  routines no longer snoop around in the RastPort contents but
  34.   rather  use  the  operating  system  routines  now  (this  is for Kickstart 3.0
  35.   compatibility).

  37. - The  headers  (password,  user name, bbs name, phone number) of encrypted phone
  38.   book  entries were not decoded properly.  The phonebook files were not corrupt,
  39.   the program only had problems to display them.
  40.  
  41. - A  couple  of enhancements have been made in order to support special operating
  42.   system features available under Kickstart 3.0.
  43.  
  44. - The notorious character-clipping-crash is gone. Honestly.
  45.  
  46. - Added support for a new baud rate: 600 bps.
  47.  
  48. - Fixed an Enforcer hit which would occur with text input requesters.
  49.  
  50. - The  program  has  been  recompiled  using  the SAS/C compiler v6.0, the latest
  51.   includes and linker libraries.
  52.  
  53. In short, v2.4a is what v2.4 should have been in the first place.

  55. I have heard of problems some users have with the terminal emulation code, especially
  56. emacs seems to cause trouble again. Unfortunately, the users to report any terminal
  57. emulation bugs always expect me to know what to do if some obscure application
  58. messes up the terminal output on the screen. There is no such "Timmy, the magic pixie"
  59. to whisper in my ear "Look, there is this guy from Columbus, Ohio who hits ^E which
  60. causes emacs to transmit 'Esc [ 17 ; 13 H'...". If you want a particular terminal
  61. emulation bug to be fixed, send me a verbatim capture (i.e. turn off the capture
  62. filter) of the session in which the offending codes would show up and I will try to
  63. get it working correctly in the next revision.

  65. Oops... I almost forgot to mention that `term' v2.4a will as always be available for
  66. ftp from ftp.informatik.uni-oldenburg.de (134.106.1.9).
