- i found my problem. somehow, in replacing the monitor i was hitting
- some part of the mechanical system which ejects and positions floppy
- disks and putting it into a locked state. i believe that the problem
- is caused by the cable running up to the monitor, which starts on the
- left side of the motherboard and is grounded just to the left of the
- floppy drive.
-
- anyway. the best way to replace the monitor is not the natural way, by
- tipping it forward, engaging the two catches on the front of the
- space, and then rotating backwards. at least this week it is munging
- my floppy drive. i succeeded by setting it down from above and then
- fought with the catch mechanism till it engaged.
-
- the more i work with the 3b1 the more i admire the develish ingenuity
- of the designers in making a non-repairable, hence probably throw-away
- item! it couldn't have happened by accident!
