- Ok, here's an interesting one I hope somone can explain (or at least verify my
- theory).
- after logining into the install account of my 7300, I noticed annother install
- Office window open (when I'm using UA I usually login as install). anyway, I
- could not close this window. I COULD click on it or choose it from wmgr and
- type in it, resize it and move it. I did a ps, no processes running in it.
- And after a little trial and error, I determined it was /dev/w1 (I used 'cat
- file > /dev/w?' until I found the right device file). I'm still not sure why
- the window was there, it seems that it wasn't closed after my last logout.
- Any thoughts? anyone seen this before?
-
- Anyway, I decided a shutdown/reboot would most likely fix the problem. Upon
- reboot it made it to 'checking stored files' and the screen went blank and
- things started all over. It made it to the green screen and stopped, the Green
- LED toggleing on and off. I think (Here's where I'm guessing. Correct me if
- I'm wrong!) init? or whatever checks the files found w1 open saw this as bad,
- deleted it and rebooted. BUT it needs a window to give the 'stored files are
- being checked' message so it locked on the reboot. What I don't understand if
- the above is right, is why it was able to give me the message the first time.
- I've already corrected this problem (my HD needed reformatting anyway and I did
- have a backup) But I'd like to know for the sake of knowing, also in case it
- happens again. How to deal with this. Any input would be greatly
- appreciated!!!!!
