- 2 weeks ago I asked for a batch management system to our
- Data General AViiONS. This is what I got:

- In article <1992Oct27.141318.2777@md-oss.dk> you write:
- :
- : Our application developers are currently porting an Ingres
- : application from Data General MVs to AViiON.
- :
- : Being used to the batch environment on the MVs they would
- : like to have similar possibilities in Unix, i.e. holding
- : jobs that are waiting to be run, different batch queues
- : with different characteristics (number of concurrently
- : active jobs, priority etc.), rescheduling of jobs etc.
- : And the possibility of controlling batch queues on
- : multiple machines on the net from one spot would be great.
- :
- : Does anyone know a product that can help them ? They
- : have talked about making some of it as part of their

- : our other applications as well.

- : Please reply via e-mail - if something interesting
- : shows up I will post a summary to this newsgroup.

- I know of a few packages for running batch queues on a UNIX machine.
- One is called NQS (Network Queuing System). It was originally written
- for NASA by Sterling Software, but it has made its way around the world
- a few times now. Unfortunately I don't have a copy, or I'd send it to
- you.
-
- Another is DQS, written by a fellow named Tom Green at Florida State
- University, and available via anonymous ftp. Again, I'd send it if
- I had it.

- Thank you, Kevin.
-
- I have found nqs and installed it. Is does have all the features
- that we want but I haven't succeeded in having them all work yet.
- I can make batch and pipe queues work - but not with routing
- from one machine to another. I do hope that it will work after I
- have studied the system some more.
-
- It seems that DQS still is a beta version so I haven't looked more
- into that.
