  17. myself I can add that the competition is run ala MIT's 270 course in the
  18. Mechanical Engineering department.

  22.             FIRST Encounters
  23.  
  24.   After a very successful pilot competition called 'Maize Craze', U.S. FIRST,
  25. a not-for-profit organization whose goal is to increase elementary and high
  26. school students' level of interest in math and science, is doing it again.
  27. FIRST Encounters is the national creative engineering competition featuring 
  28. school, business and university partnerships.  Played out in the spirit of
  29. sport, the competition immerses 9th and 10th grade students in the exciting
  30. world of engineering.  Teams consisting of participating students and
  31. engineers from partner business or university will have 6 weeks to design
  32. and build a working 'vehicle' which will then go head to head in a four-team
  33. gladiator-style competition on a specified arena.  The national championship
  34. will be held on February 26 and 27 in Manchester, NH.
