- Howdi fokes!
-
- I am trying to build email-connection from PC's to Unix with the
- following software:
-
- MS-DOS 5.0
- Windows 3.1
- LANtastic 4.1 (and for Windows)
- Futurus Team
- MHS version 1.5M (Action Technologies; Nick Systems)
- XGate 1.40 (Dave Frailey)
- SUN sparcserver 690
-
- Has anyone done (or at least tried to do) anything similar to this?
- Please lead the horse to knowledge (I am not saying that this horse is
- bright so you may have to explain with details...) and I promise that
- I will drink.
-
- More information and thoughts:
-
- We have almost 1500 MS-DOS microcomputers in ethernet using LANtastic
- (Artisoft) for LAN resources and NCSA Telnet, FTP etc for mainframes
- (SUN Unix, VAX VMS).
-
- When people want to use email, they have to remove LANtastic from
- memory (batchfiles do it) and then connect into mainframe (batchfiles
- do it also). They have to study the operating systems and editors like
- Unix, emacs, VMS, eve, ... for email.
-
- I have received Futurus Team (former Right Hand Man by ?) and
- MHS-server software (Action Technologies) for testing email into
- internet from PC's. I have also received XGATE-software (Dave Frailey)
- in order to make a gateway into Unix-world using SMTP.
-
- I have managed to install Futurus Team and MHS-software into our
- LANtastic-server and they work fine, but the XGate refuses to be
- installed properly: It says that there is 'No Active File Server'.
-
- I know that XGate is for Novell and Charon, but I heard that someone
- has done with it a gateway that works.
-
- Thanks in advance,
