- I have a question for tcp-ip gurus, especially if you are
- familiar with SunOS.
-
- I have the following setup.
-
- Sparc II w/ 2 E-net cards
- _______
- | |
- |-------|Gateway|-------|
- | | | |
- Sparc II | |_______| |
- ______ | | Sparc II
- | | | | ________
- |Sender|-------| |-------| |
- | | | | |Receiver|
- |______| | |
- |________|
-
- The gateway is an or'nery Sparc II, with two Ethernet cards on it.
- I need to send 10 MByte Image files from the sender to the receiver.
- I set my TCP Transmit and Receive buffer sizes to 50K Bytes. However,
- the gateway is beyond my control. Do my TCP packets get reassembled at
- the Gateway? In other words, does the buffer size in the gateway matter
- in the speed of transfer? I would expect all the routing to be done at the
- IP layer. Therefore, my TCP buffer sizes should not matter at all, right ?
-
- I don't know how this piece of information matters, but I monitored the
- number of Ethernet Packets on the Sender, the gateway and the Receiver.
- While Perfmeter showed between 256 and 512 packets per sec. on the
- sending machine, it showed between 1024 and 2048 pps on the gateway and
- a constant 1024 pps on the receiver. All three machines were
- loaded only by my sending and receiving programs. Any insights into
- this discrepency between the number of pps on the three machines?
-
- Thanks for any ideas/answers you can give me.
