- We do a monthly hostcount for Europe. For that purpose I pull *every* zone
- file from all properly registered DNSes in Europe (Europe in our sense
- includes Israel and Tunesia, and the Baltic States and other Ex-Soviet
- States). The total zone output for this comes down to around 32 Mbytes of
- DNS info. Considering the fact that there are 250,000 hosts in Europe
- according to our last count, and 1,1 Million hosts worldwide, according to
- the last global hostcount done at SRI, the total amount of information
- available in the DNS on that part of the Internet that we can all reach, must
- be something in the order of 150 Mbytes.
-
- As said above, organisations with their DNS hidden from the "normal" Internet
- are not counted, and therefore their DNS size unknown.
