- #I'm seeing a problem where a PCNFS V4 client sends an NLM_SHARE request
- #to a unix server.
- #
- #The server sends the GRANTED message back to the PC, but locks on the
- #server to this file are still happening.
- #
- #In other words, the PC and the server both have the file simultaneously
- #locked.
-
- Not true. A sharing reservation is not a lock.
-
- #That doesn't make sense does it?
-
- NLM_SHARE requests allow DOS clients to coordinate the opening of
- files in a manner which is consistent with DOS semantics. However,
- Unix and other OS's have no such concept as sharing mode, so
- they can't play. It's not feasible to map sharing onto locks
- (though you're welcome to bash your head against that wall :-)
- nor is it possible to force all locking requests to check for
- possible conflicts with DOS sharing (since local locks are not
- visible to the NLM).
