- Well, we also used eNFS/cache (1.0.1, as well as a more recent patch that
- Interstream gave us to test) on a number of machines for a while. It
- showed real promise for reducing the network load, if used on all of our
- machines (but then, our network is seriously overloaded, as are many of
- the servers), but we had to give up on it because of recurring corrupted
- data problems.
-
- Our clients would see old versions of files that had been replaced on the
- server hours beforehand, and would sometimes see what looked like badly
- corrupted directory contents. This introduced enough instability into
- the development environment that we eventually decided to back out the
- eNFS/cache software and wait for a more robust release.
-
- The Interstream folks themselves were great -- willing to be very helpful
- in solving problems, providing patch releases, etc. -- but the software
- just didn't quite seem "there" yet. I expect that when it gets "there",
- it will be a real win.
