  23. We occasionally see a similar thing - first our environment & then the 
  24. conditions of failure:

  27.     8 Spark (1, 1+, 2 & 10) pcnfsd servers
  28.     3 Harris Night Hawk pcnfsd servers
  29.     50+ PCs w/pc-nfs
  30.  
  31. If one of the Harris machines answered the request for authentication, no 
  32. problem (ever).  If one of the SUNs answered, then a user would run into 
  33. difficulty (not authenticate) ONLY IF a machine on the sub-net was down.
  34.  
  35. For some reason when one of the machines on our sub-net goes down, all SUNs 
  36. will slow down (network timeouts?) to the point that the user authentication 
  37. fails.
