- I gleaned this from Inside AppleTalk, this newsgroup, and experience with
- our network. For example, our "Smith Lab" zone is in the zone lists on
- several networks ("cables"): One is LocalTalk, one is the main Ethernet,
- and another is a Novell file server's internal net. The same goes for
- our zones "EEAP" and "WSOM", though I think EEAP is only on LocalTalk and
- Ethernet, but not a server internal net.
-
- One person pointed out that "span" might be the wrong term, though I think
- the meaning is clear: The same zone name can be assigned to more than one
- network number range, on different subsections of the network.
-
- BTW, I used the term "cable" because I couldn't think of a better term.
- "Subnet" is the IP term for what I want. Maybe "segment"?
-
- One source for the single-zone limit for LocalTalk is NetWare for Macintosh:
- "A nonextended network is NOT capable of supporting the Phase 2 addressing
- extensions of a netork range and zone list." [1]
-
- I hope this helps.
