- CAP should handle this already - no mods needed. The first thing to
- understand is what CAP uses broadcast IP for. When you open your
- Chooser on a Mac, select the zone that contains the CAP host and
- then look for something that it has (print server or file server),
- the IPTalk Gateway that handles the AppleTalk to IPTalk has to
- ensure that the NBP LookUp gets to all devices in that zone (read
- CAP hosts). If a line with a flag like "N1" is in atalkatab for that
- network, it will use the IP address with one byte of all-ones
- appended - it will send a directed-IP-broadcast, and hopefully all
- hosts on that network will receive and respond.
-
- In your case I'd recommend putting an "H" line in there (instead of
- "N"). This means that this designated IP host (the IP address after
- the "H") will get the NBP LkUp send to a "rebroadcast" port - it is
- then its responsibility to rebroadcast to all hosts on that subnet.
- Note subnet here means all hosts with the same first-three-bytes -
- this will probably span multiple of your 5-bit subnets.
-
- The "rebroadcast server" can either be an IPTalk Gateway that is in
- that subnet (and thus is configured with the proper broadcast
- address to use), OR it can be "atalkrd" on that host. As a
- command-line option you give it a list of host IP addresses to send
- the NBP LkUp to.
