- Hi folks.... Sorry if this is a repeat question; the machine I originally
- posted this from (wittenberg.edu, via desire.wright.edu) apparently didn't
- propogate it 'round the world....
-
- And first off, no, we don't have POSIX installed; that would solve this
- entire problem real fast.
-
- Anyway. Has anyone patched Elvis 1.6 to maintain file protections when saving?
- Every time I save a file in Elvis, it reset the protections to O:RWE,S:RWE
- and no group/world access, no matter what the file was set to before.
- It's a little irritating to have to go reset every public file I edit by hand..
-
- I made a weak attempt at patching it myself, but I don't know quite enough
- C to do it.. :)
-
- I've tried the VI.SAV version running around (looks like BSD sources),
- but while its screen stuff is more efficient and it does do file prots OK,
- the shell on it dosen't work (tries to execute BIN:SH.EXE ;-), and it's a
- little large, and dosen't do a very good job of autodetecting term types...
- People keep saying to avoid the TPU version, and we don't have POSIX...
-
- If anyone's fixed this little annoyance and wants to donate the patch,
- drop a note to kramer@wittenberg.edu... If someone wants to tackle it
- but dosen't have it, the source is on wuarchive.wustl.edu as
- mirrors/msdos/editor/elv16src.zip (yes, the VMS makefiles are in the MSDOS
- source zipfile too)...
-
- Thanks much...
