- Hello VAX Friends:
-
- We are running VMS 5.5 on a VAXcluster, consisting of an 8820, a 6310, and
- several VAXstation 3100's. Our cluster has connections to both Internet and
- BITNET. The cluster is used primarily by faculty and graduate students for
- research and electronic mail.
-
- The problem we have is that VAX MAIL is pretty picky about sending mail to
- BITNET and Internet. Folks have to provide the mailer prefix JNET% to send
- to a BITNET address, and SMTP% to send to an Internet address.
-
- What we would like to be able to do is not have the clients worry about which
- prefix they provide (we'd want a mailer to take care of that). This would
- have great benefit, not just for sending, but also for replying (which we tell
- folks can't be done, except to a message with one of our two approved mailer
- prefixes).
-
- So, my question is, is there an intelligent mailer available for use on a
- VAX/VMS system which can handle access to BITNET and Internet, and if
- possible, other networks like: MCImail, Applelink, X.400, X.500, etc.
-
- And, since I've asked that much, another nice feature we'd like to see is a
- way that we can check the status of mail in a person's account (via something
- like FINGER, if possible).
-
- Does anyone have any suggestions for ways that they've handled this under VMS?
-
- Please e-mail me directly, and I'll summarize to the group at large if I get
- anything worth summarizing!
-
- Thanks!
