  15.    I am trying to write an application which communicates across DECnet from a
  16. system running VMS 4.7 to one run running VMS 5.4-1.  This purpose of this
  17. program is to copy files from a unix host via multinet's rcp to the VMS 4.7
  18. system then copy them to the VMS 5.4-1 system which does not have multinet.
  19. This part is easy enough.  Here is the hard part.

  21.    The VMS 5.4-1 system has a 3-1/2 in floppy which we access using the
  22. PCX program to read and write MSDOS files.  Once the copy has been made from
  23. VSM 4.7 to the 5.4-1 system, I'd like to run PCX to move the files to the
  24. floppy in an MSDOS format.  However, I'd like to do all of this from the VMS
  25. 4.7 system.

  27.    Hence, the upshot is the transfer of files from a unix host to a 3-1/2 in
  28. floppy in an MSDOS format.  Unfortunately, due to hardware and software
  29. constraints, this must be done through an intermediate machine.

  31.    Currently I have a test account setup on the 5.4-1 machine so that users
  32. can login to and run PCX to move the files to the floppy.  However, I do not
  33. like this arrangement and I am looking for a better way.  Unfortunately, our
  34. users lack any sort of sophistication (a mouse with more than ONE button is
  35. too much) so I need the whole process to be command file driven from the VMS
  36. 4.7 system.  Above all, I want it to be reasonably secure.

  38.    In about 6 months, we are installing Multinet on the system, with the
  39. floppy but I need a solution Today.  Any hints on how to do this via DECnet
  40. TASK to TASK in a reasonably secure fashion will be greatly appreciated.
