  16. The DEC rrd-42 is a Sony CDU-541. In the back of PC Mag there are multiple
  17. dealers selling cdrom drives buried in with whatever else they sell.

  19. All I have seen have been in the $410 - $420 range. This is not as
  20. desirable a drive as the CDU-561 that is faster and does multi-sessions
  21. (for Photo-CD), but the 561 isn't readily available yet.

  23. Sony will have a slower SCSI drive in the future that is priced more
  24. like their non-scsi CDU-31A the cow box pc company sells for $225.

  26. Sony official distributors won't be anywhere near as cheap as ~$415 for
  27. a CDU-541 - probably ask $450 wholesale in small volume.

  29. A (BIG) National PC distributor that is NOT a Sony distributor (grey 
  30. market...) has had the CDU-541 in their catalog for years at $402.
  31. Those street prices in the magazines are very good.

  33. Stick them into a LARGE multi-frontbay tower case sans-motherboard.
