  40. I can understand your problem. Short of some rather clumsy 
  41. maneuvers, PUBLIC Mail can be difficult.
  42.  
  43. However, I have often solved this type of problem using NEWS. 
  44. Most NEWS systems (we use ANU-NEWS here) provide a mechanism to 
  45. add messages received via Email into a newsgroup. These messages 
  46. are then available to all users who have access to this 
  47. newsgroup. The NEWS system also keeps track of who has seen which 
  48. posting, so that users do not interfere with each other. 
  49. Additionally, the NEWS systems are setup to automatically expire 
  50. items, so maintenance is easier (you may want some newsgroups to 
  51. never automatically expire, which can be done also).

  53. You then modify your standard SYLOGIN.COM to check for messages 
  54. waiting to be read in the NEWS system. Then users will be 
  55. notified of new messages when they login.
