  12. Because of curiousity and also a little need to plan our future I have the
  13. following question.

  15. I understood that DEC plans to allow mixed Alpha/VAX clusters in the future.
  16. Does anyone know whether this includes mixed clusters with a common system
  17. disk?

  19. I suspect that, in order to allow such a beast, the definition of SYS$SYSROOT,
  20. which now points to the equivalent of SYS$SPECIFIC and SYS$COMMON must be
  21. changed to something like a search list of
  22.  
  23. SYS$SYSROOT ->
  24.     SYS$NODE_SPECIFIC        for e.g. MODPARAMS.DAT
  25.     SYS$ARCHITECTURE_SPECIFIC    for e.g. the .EXE files
  26.     SYS$COMMON            for e.g. HELPLIB.HLB, STARTUP.COM

  28. Would there be other technical problems with a common system disk for a mixed
  29. cluster? I suspect the boot block, or is it only used by VAX hardware?
