- Ok everyone. I haven't been following this group until lately. I am
- currently using LANtastic 4.1 with two AE2 (Artisoft) ethernet cards.
-
- I would like to find a peer-to-peer network which runs under native OS/2. I am
- very aware of how to use LANtastic under an OS/2 VDM, and frankly, it
- stinks! I have heard hints of people using FTP's or IBM's TCP/IP and NFS
- to go peer-to-peer. Is this a workable solution? Here is what I want to
- do:
-
- 1. Take my 386/20 (8 Mb RAM) and run Maximus/2 (OS/2 BBS package) using a
- 14.4 v.32bis modem and also run the appropriate TCP/IP sfotware.
-
- 2. Take my 486/33 (8 Mb RAM) and be able to access Maximus' message base
- and to do general file mainteance. Maximus allows for sharing of all
- its files. Of course, the 486/33 will be running the TCP/IP software
- as well.
-
- In other words, be able to access all the resources of the 386/20
- without destroying performance on the BBS and be able to do this in
- native OS/2 environment.
-
- Concerns: How will TCP/IP affect the high speed modem?
- My Artisoft AE2 cards have an NE2000 mode. Will these work
- with the TCP/IP software.
- Is this a kludgy solution?
-
- The BBS machine will be ONE node, and will be a full screen session. The
- only other process will be the TCP/IP.
-
- Please give me feedback based if via this newsgroups or send mail.
-
- Thank you.
