- There is a two-disk set called "installb" made available by IBM. It
- allows one to install OS/2 from a 3.5" B: drive if you can't swap the
- 5.25" A: drive. You need to have a high density (1.2M) 5.25" A: drive
- and a 1.44M B: drive. It involves creating two "bootstrap" 5.25" disks
- and booting from the A: drive, then the 5.25" disks transfer the
- install process to B:.
-
- On hobbes, the file is called "instb.zip" -- getting this file will
- result in FRUSTRATION! Some fool archived it with the zip utility that
- runs under OS/2; it CAN NOT be unzipped with the official DOS pkunzip
- release -- you must already have OS/2 running to unzip it. A real
- catch 22.
-
- Try looking for "installb.zoo", which can be unpacked with any
- zoo archive utility. I think there is one on software.watson.ibm.com
- in the "patch" directory, or try looking for it with archie.
-
- If you need more help, feel free to e-mail. The procedure worked fine
- for me. You may want to try calling IBM -- if you register your GA
- over the phone, they'll mail you the disks for free (I ordered mine
- Monday morning and they arrived on Wednesday, though I found the file
- by ftp between then).

- No problem.

- p.s. Strongest advertising for OS/2 I can think of: "It's not
- Micro$haft... and it works GREAT!"
