- (I think my previous post fell on the floor.)
-
- I am running OS/2 on a Gateway 2000 386/33, with a 200MB disk entirely
- HPFS. Primarily to see if WordStar for Windows would work in a pure
- DOS/Windows environment (it doesn't under OS2WIN, at least not very
- reliably), I decided to mostly backup the disk, install DR DOS 6.0,
- reserving a partition for HPFS, and re-install OS/2 on top of it.
-
- Since I have a Plus HardCard 40 gathering dust, I decided to plug it
- in after backing up most of the main disk. It was already being used
- as a secondary disk in its original home.
-
- When I powered back up, I was not overly surprised to discover that
- the system would not boot. It merely confirmed that I had to proceed
- with my original plan. The DR DOS installation went smoothly, and
- obviously to the HardCard as the C drive. (I should have been
- surprised by this, but I wasn't paying attention.)
-
- Eventually, the DR DOS installation program suggested that it wanted
- to reboot my computer, which suggestion I confirmed. I was astonished
- to see OS/2 boot itself up unscathed. It does not seem to detect the
- presence of the HardCard at all.
-
- So DR DOS sees the HardCard and not the disk supplied with the Gateway
- 2000. OS/2 sees the Gateway disk and not the HardCard. This appears
- to be consistent behaviour, not just which disk randomly raises its
- hand first. (I installed DR DOS a second time just to check.)
-
- I would obviously like advice on how to use the HardCard (or even
- advice to the effect of "DON'T *DO* THAT!"). But I would more like an
- explanation of why one operating sees one disk while the other sees
- the other.
-
- Thanks.
