  12. Over the weekend I found out about, and down loaded the new beta drivers
  13. for the HP DeskJet line of printers up to the 550C.
  14.  
  15. The first thing that should be said is THANK YOU.  I did not see any names
  16. or such, but I hope you read the net.

  18. The second thing is comments.  I assume, since these are beta drivers, the
  19. programmers would like feedback, so here goes.(No criticsm intended, the work
  20. is greatly appreciated.)

  23. 1.  The 550c was included as a device, but some of the functunality 
  24.     (at least it's best feature, the ability to use
  25.     both a black and color cartridge at once) is not included.  I assume this
  26.     is due to the recent release of the 550c and that it was included in the
  27.     driver at the last minute.  Too me this is a sign that there are plans
  28.     to support it.  I look forward to future beta/regular releases of the
  29.     driver.

  31. 2.  Most of the printer drivers ask if you would like to install a windows
  32.     version of the driver.  This one did not.  In general this should not
  33.     be a concern since most people probably have the windows driver that came
  34.     with the printer, but at least for me the driver HP supplied for windows
  35.     does not agree with win-os2+AMI PRO and more than one page of color.

  37. 3.  I found a picture in Draw for OS/2 that does not print correctly on my
  38.     setup.  In this picture, there is a filled rectangle that when printed is
  39.     only filled up to the diagonal.  If the authors of the driver would like
  40.     the sample I would be more than happy to make it available to them.
  41.     (This was Draw for OS/2 from Micrografx)  If I selected the rectangle
  42.     for printing, i.e. 'print selection' it printed fine, but if I printed
  43.     the entire page it messed it up, along with some of the other graphics.

  45. 4.  The color gradients are not as smooth for the OS/2 beta driver as they
  46.     are with the windows 550c driver(when it works).  When printing the same
  47.     picture in Draw for Windows using the Windows driver and Draw for OS/2
  48.     using the new driver, the Windows driver gives a smoother change(gradient)
  49.     from one color/shade to another.  I haven't tried all of the settings, but
  50.     I did use presentation quality for both.

  52. 5.  Overall, I applaud(sp??) the new drivers.  They seem to be stable and
  53.     have improved the black printing tremendously.  Anyone who has a DeskJet
  54.     would probably be well served to get the beta drivers.  They make me 
  55.     believe that IBM is listening to the net and the concerns of the users
  56.     because this was a weak point for many of us.
  57.     (I just wish HP's 550c drivers were as stable under win-os2, the 500c
  58.      HP drivers worked great.)

  62. The drivers are on watson, I have forgotten what directory.  I would like to
  63. hear comments from other people using the new drivers.  Also, I would like
  64. to hear from anyone else with a 550c concerning how it works with the HP
  65. drivers in win-os2.
