  18. Thanks for all the advice!  I got lots of input from the net.
  19. Tonight, I got past the problem.  I had already removed the old
  20. ORCHID drivers and gone back to the GA version of DISPLAY.DLL,
  21. and had plain VGA working; that hadn't fixed it.  Finally, I
  22. replaced my CONFIG.SYS file with one based upon the original
  23. GA install.  It had one major difference vis a vis the one I
  24. was running:  The DOS shell was COMMAND.COM, rather than the
  25. 4DOS I had been using.  With  it, I was able to use the selective
  26. install and DSPINSTL portion thereof to put in the new Tseng
  27. drivers.

  29. HOWEVER, the performance is lousy!  On my 386SX-20, scrolling is
  30. just too slow.  And the 14x8 fonts are too thin; they almost
  31. look like 1024x768.

  33. Nonetheless, I at least have the choice!  Thanks again y'all,
  34. and remember to be careful about having 4DOS in the loop (if
  35. indeed that was the problem).  Keep your old CONFIG.SYS files
  36. around!
