- After a great deal of hesitation, and an enormous amount of trepidation, I
- decided to revert back to my old DOS + Windows world after using OS/2 since
- late August of this year.
-
- What a horrid experience this DOS + Windows world is after really experiencing
- the power of the OS/2 platform. OS/2 can really multitask, things can really
- keep going in the background, and disk I/O is incredibly fast compared to
- Windoze. In fact, most of all, I miss formatting disks in the background
- while I download files at 9600+ baud and print documents with Ami Pro in
- a seemless Windoz session.
-
- Unfortunately, I require Windows more and more. With my CD-ROM drive a non-
- SCSI device, and my sound board unwilling to cooperate in booted DOS sessions,
- and all the good software (Ami Pro, Excel, Procomm+, and all my multimedia
- CD-ROM software) being Windows 3.1 software -- I am left with no other
- option.
-
- My question is this; Can I do anything to bring my computer into the world
- of CD-ROM + sound board (a Sony proprietary with a Pro Audio Spectrum) with
- OS/2? What exactly is this multimedia ket IBM offers and does it include
- support for DOS and Windows software as well?
-
- I really hope OS/2 can catch up in the software department. IBM has a top
- notch product here that is highly capable and inordinantly efficient, but
- everything I own is designed for DOS + Windows now. Just about every major
- manufacturer has jumped on this bandwagon, generally refusing to awknowledge
- the limitations and annoying inconveniences of a non-preeptive environment.
- I lose more files during transfer than I ever thought possible, I really
- want my OS/2 back...URG!
