- I had a similar problem, and fixed it. You'll have to
- decide whether this applies to you.
-
- Under GA without the service pack, I had the Orchid 800x600x256
- drivers. Things worked fairly well.
-
- I didn't change the LIBPATH when I installed the SP, or
- when I did the selective install of the 800x600x256
- generic ET-4000 drivers. After each step, I had the
- infamous transparent-notebook-tab problem.
-
- I deleted the directory containing the old Orchid drivers
- from my LIBPATH, rebooted, and everything was fine.
-
- Some colors changed, but mostly for the better. A big plus:
- now when I change video modes, such as when a full screen DOS
- app starts, the screen is automatically sized and positioned.
- Before, I had to constantly adjust the horizontal position
- and horizontal and vertical size controls on the monitor.
- "That's why they're on the front of the monitor, you know."
-
- The system is a generic 486-33, ISA bus, 8Mb RAM, generic ET4000
- SVGA card, ...
-
- Off the subject:
- I like the SP. I used my system all weekend without being
- forced to ctrl-alt-del or cold boot. That wouldn't have
- happened before, even though I had all the fixes and patches
- which seemed to be applicable to my problems.
-
- Like many others, I'd like to do VGA in a window on my 800x600
- screen, but that's something we've never had, not something lost
- in the SP, as far as I know (except for 320x200x256, which still
- works).
