- Well, I'm stuck. Here's the scoop, and I hope somebody out there
- can figure out what's wrong. I'm running 2.0GA on a 386SX with 8
- MB. To date I've applied the July-ish Kernel patch from IBM, as
- well as the 360K patch for my B drive. My video card is a Generic
- Clone Tseng ET-4000. I've been using the Orchid 0.9 drivers in 800x600
- mode. They work, but not perfectly, and I'd rather use the Real
- Thing.
-
- I applied the Service Pack (golden 6055_). It went through all 12
- diskettes, then told me to Wait. ANd it sat there. This was with
- unselective boot-CSD install. Eventually (like half an hour later)
- I rebooted. It came up with lots of new files, but no Tseng driver.
-
- So with the help of this newsgroup, I tried to run DSPINSTL. ANd
- the machine HUNG! Pulse and the mouse worked but I couldn't do
- anything with the mouse; eventually I rebooted.
-
- Now, with the new kernel, I have to leave the ORCHID driver in the
- path. With it out of the libpath, it won't boot -- the system hangs
- and needs RED BUTTON reset (not even three-finger) just after going
- "black" after the initial OS/2 color screen. The new IBM DISPLAY.DLL
- driver is really a printer driver, says the readme, but what's the new
- default video driver?
-
- I then tried "selective install" in an OS/2 window. It sees everything
- up-to-date and jumps from diskette 2 to 12, then goes "Wait". ANd
- sits there in an endless loop (pulse sez so). I left this for over an
- hour. At least I could run DOSboxes in the meantime. And I could
- give it the full screen, etc. I could even run VGA diags in full-screen
- DOS sessions while the WAIT sat there. PSTAT in a different OS2 box
- said that DSPINSTL was active. Hmmmm. I see a pattern. DSPINSTL is
- NOT happy. BTW, running DSPINSTL from the STARTUP window caused the
- system to hang again.
-
- Any idea how to get past this? I'm suspicious of the presence of the
- Orchid DISPLAY.DLL, but am now stuck with it. Thanks! BTW, if anybody
- really knows the answer, mail would be appreciated -- this is one
- busy newsgroup!
