- I posted 2 notes a couple of days ago about 2 errors I had been getting.
- Here is a slight update and another call for help out there!
-
- The first error was:
-
- Application Error
-
- Draw has caused an error in win-os2*.
- GP Fault in Module: GDI.EXE at 0015:0310
- Press OK to close application.
-
-
- The error only happened with the Tseng 640x480x256 color driver installed.
- IBM's response was to check the batch number and bios revision and get back
- to them... They said that only 1 or 2 other people had reported anything
- similar. I've gotten email from more than 1 or 2 people who had the problem.
- Please give IBM a call if you have the problem. Many of the people were not
- using the Tseng driver, but one of the other new drivers I think, which leads
- me to believe it is not the batch of chips my Tseng came from. They indicated
- they would not do anything until I get back to them, which I plan on as soon
- as I can pull my computer apart, or until other people indicate the problem.
-
-
- The second error was a Sharing violation that came up with the new HP550C
- and AMI PRO with multiple page documents where one or more had color.
- I do not know if it will happen with other programs since this is the only
- multipage color program I have right now.
-
- The error was:
-
- (FIRST BOX)
-
- Sharing Violation on driver C:
-
- Cancel Retry
-
- Upon 'Retry' nothing changes,
- upon 'Cancel'
-
- (SECOND BOX)
-
- Disk I/O Error. Free up disk space
- or change xxxxxxxxx setting.
- Aborting Print
-
- OK
-
-
- I forgot what the xxxxxxxx setting was, but it is used to reduce the quality
- of the printout.
-
- It seems almost like it cannot write to the root directory. When I have one
- of these errors I end up with a file in the root directory that varies in
- size, named ~hpxxx.tmp.
-
- The solution from IBM, 'call HP, it's a driver we didn't write'
- The solution from HP, 'we don't have OS?2 on any of our machines so we can
- test the problem. Besides we don't support OS/2
- with the driver'
-
- HP did suggest that I give the windows session more memory because their
- driver supposedly uses 2 meg on its own. So I gave the windows session
- 8 meg extended and 8 meg expanded thru the win-os2 settings. It did change
- the amount of time it took for the error to occur.
-
- In an attempt to isolate the problem I reformatted the hard disk, only
- 4-6 times so far since the SP came out in attempts to isolate problems, and
- reinstalled OS/2 GA. Since I added the SP and the 550C at the same time
- I thought this might be a culprit. With GA things don't seem much different,
- except now I'm getting a #$%^&* GP fault in GDI.EXE from AMI PRO sometimes.
- Never happened before. This is crazy. I'm going to reinstal OS/2 from
- the ground up with a reformatted hard disk again and go thru this stuff one
- piece at a time. Can you wear out a hard disk reformatting it????
-
- Any ideas what a Sharing violation is???????
-
- Also, any ideas when IBM and HP might get cozy and actually get some printer
- drivers out????
-
- Oh, during my talk with the IBM rep, I found out that my PC should not be
- able to install OS/2. The keyboard bios revision is all wrong!!!! This info
- came about when I was trying to find out why the mouse continues to pop to
- the top of the screen!
-
- The bios is from AMI and the MB uses a symphany(SP?) chipset I believe.
- Some of the numbers at the bottom of my screen during boot up are:
-
-
- xxxxx.....-070791-SYMPH-8
- ^ the rep said this '8' means that my computer should
- not like OS/2. Maybe it's just now figuring this out.
-
-
- Enough of my wondering thru my troubles. If anyone has any ideas please
- send me some email at:
-
- tamu@uxh.cso.uiuc.edu
-
- I originally had very few troubles with OS/2.
-
- Sorry for my diatribe(I think that's the word I want) about my troubles. I'm
- just slightly frustrated and am out of possible solutions?????
-
- Any ideas would be appreciated.(is anyone from team OS/2 at IBM listening???)
-
- Oh yea, the machine is:
-
- Maxtor 7120 ide driver
- 486DX-33 with 8 meg mother board from EISA TECH CORP.
- Diamond Speedstar+ hicolor 1 meg. vidieo
- Magvox, cheap 14 inch vga monitor.
-
- Thanks,
-
- Todd
