  11. Story: I was messing around with the .INI files to try and make them smaller
  12. OS2SYS.INI was 1.5MB...
  13. I used SHOWINI to copy the INI files. I then added CALL=CMD.EXE to the end of
  14. CONFIG.SYS and shut down <<-- I think this is the cause of the problem.

  16. when CME.EXE appeared, I copied the 'new' INI files over the old ones, and
  17. renamed the old ones as backups.

  19. Then I exited from CMD.EXE, PM desktop appears (without any icons !) and the
  20. following message box:

  31. Pressing help does nothing
  32. Pressing OK or Cancel causes a CMD.EXE window to appear, and the message box
  33. pops up again. If I press OK, I get another CMD.EXE, and so on.

  35. I can start PM apps from the command line, so presumable PMSHELL.EXE is working.

  37. I eventually got my desktop back using WPSBKUP (fortunately !).

  39. What I want to know is:
  40. What does this error message mean ?
  41. What caused it ?
  42. Will it happen again if I use the above method to change INI files ?
  43. If so, how to I keep my INI files small ? I *hate* booting from floppies !
