- Hello all. After reading all these problems people have been having with
- the CSD, and suggestions that I should go back to the original OS/2 disk
- installation (without the fixes and patches I've been downloading from
- hobbes/ftp-os2), I waited till I got my new harddrive (I was getting a
- new harddrive anyways) and reinstall OS/2 from scratch before applying
- the CSD so that there is no fixes or patches or any other garbage in my
- OS/2. So I went through the CSD installation successfully (when it told
- me that I have a later dated file than that of the CSD, I was suspicious
- since I just reinstall OS/2 from the original disk since I have no patches
- or fixes installed so the CSD should have files later than thatof the
- ones on my harddrive?i I took the later dated file So don't install from
- the CSD disk). I rebooted and everything seems fine.
-
- I was in VGA mode. So I did my OS/2 boot disk reboot, installed Joel's
- ATI 1024x768x256c version 1.01 DISPLAY.DLL which I have been using on my
- machine since the day it came out just fine. Rebooted from harddrive and
- everything again came up just fine. So I loaded my 256 color bmp
- background picture, re setup my desktop with my usual batch of icons and
- applications around the perimeter of the screen like I've always used
- OS/2 and everything looked fine. Shutdown to save the desktop and
- rebooted. But since that reboot, I;ve been having problems.
-
- Normally, the reboot (or when I first came home and turn on my machine
- to start OS/2) comes up just fine. But every once in a while, I would
- just get a blank grey screen desktop with no icons and no background.
- Argh! Just a blank grey screen. I couldn't find anything anywhere. But
- my desktop is there so I can right button and shutdown. I rebooted again
- and again and sometimes I'd get my background back, and sometimes I'd
- get some icons back. I even turned off my background picture but I still
- get the same things so it's not that. And somethimes, it looks like I'm
- only in 16 color mode only. What I'd have to do to recover my icons is
- to go to my desktop (like there is anything else on the screen. :) ),
- and do a Arrange which screws up the way I layed out my icons but at
- least it brings my icons back to the desktop in 2 rows. So I;d have to
- re setup my icons again{ And this would work for a number of reboots.
- Then it'd blank out again. No pattern that I can see. ANd I'd have to
- Arrange and resetup my desktop again. This is a pain! I've been testing
- my CSD since it was release (I am using the second release) and this is
- what's happened so far.
-
- Has anyone else had/have this problem? Any solution? My pre-CSD verison
- of OS/2 with the regular download of fixes and patches as they became
- available for ftp has been working fine. SHould I nuke this CSD
- installtion and go back to my pre-CSD? But that will also be a BIG pain
- since I have to reinstall OS/2, then download and reinstall all those
- patches which I dont really want to do. So if anyone can slove this CSD
- problem for me, I'd rather go this route.
-
- Thanks in advance.
-
- Thomas.
