- *Sigh.* My install of OS/2 was going so well, too. I
- installed the general release of OS/2, and then placed the CSD atop of
- it without incident. I was really impressed with the speed and
- multitasking of the system. So I decided I would go ahead and install
- the 800x600x256 Tseng driver. I successfully negotiated the Welcome
- folder mystery, and appear to have successfully installed the hi-res
- driver.
-
- The *Problem* is one I alluded to in an earlier question. I
- have a generic Tseng board that relies on a peice of software to set
- it into its various modes. One of the most important of these modes
- from my standpoint is one which changes the refresh rate of the card
- to a lower one than is the default. See, I have a relatively old
- multisync monitor; it only goes to 800x600, and (I think) at 60 hz ( I
- use the command "vmode 35k". In DOS, I would simply run the program
- in my autoexec bat file if I intended to use 800x600 Windoze.
-
- Failure to set this switch properly, in Windows and OS/2,
- results in a violently swimming screen, totally unreadable, once the
- graphics (in my case, the OS/2 desktop) appear on the screen. And if I
- recall my previous Windows misery with this problem, once the screen
- is screwed, running the program doesn't help.
-
- So what I need, ideally, folks, is a way of having OS/2
- calling this little DOS utility BEFORE it initializes its desktop. I
- am certain that if we can do this, everything will look OK (though the
- screen is fairly messed up, I can see windows changing if I hit
- alt-esc and so on. There _has_ to be a way to do this -- please
- help!!!
-
- Barring that, I am going to need some way to remove my
- "failed" driver and returning to a usable screen.
-
- Oh, yeah -- one big thing working in our favor. I formatted
- under the normal FAT arrangment, with Dual Boot. I _can_ get at my
- files and utilities right now.
-
- Help gratefully accepted!!
-
- An almost-very satistfied user of OS/2 2.0!
