- ->Anyone,
- -> Let me apologise for my spelling up front, it is late and I am
- ->frustrated. I have a BIG problem and hope someone can help.
- ->
- ->My problem:
- -> I baught a 486dx/33Mhz from a company called D.C.P. (discount
- ->computer paradise) about 4 months ago. along with it came M.S.
- ->Windows and dos 5. About 3 weeks ago I started getting error messages
- ->saying that it was unable to read my "USER.EXE" file or it could not
- ->find my "HIMEM.SYS" file, and would then crash. A few days later, it
- ->started crashing when I tryed to load it (windows). I have tryed to
- ->re-install it about 7 times (plus 4 times tonight) and still it will
- ->not load. the only thing I can tell that is funny is, there is a
- ->16 Meg swap file called "386spart.par" in my root directory, yes you
- ->read right, 16 Meg's. I have plenty of memory to run it (633 k
- ->standard w/ 4 Meg's total. I do not think it is my "autoexec.bat" or
- ->my "config.sys" files, I have tryed every possible combination I or
- ->anyone else in the Computer department could think of.
- -> To top it all off, today, I tryed to call the technical
- ->support line for D.C.P. and the opperator said that not only was their
- ->tech. support line _disconnected_, but so was their _pruchase line_.
- ->
- -> Any help, advice, sympathy, pity, or donations, would be
- ->greatly appreciated.
- ->
- ->Thanks,

- I had similar problem. The way I fixed it was to reinstall
- windows froma scratch in a _different directory_ than the
- one you already have on your hard disk. I was told that
- once the kernel gets corrupt, reinstallation in the same
- directory does not help (I donno why).
-
- If you don't have a lot of staff on the HD, you may reformat
- the HD before reinstallation.
