- Here is some things that I have seen with Word 4 Windows:
-
- I installed NT, and then copy all of my old Windows apps over to
- an NTFS partition. I did this so that I could be sure that no
- virus would corrupt or destroy any of my executable files.
-
- I proceeded to set up the access rights to all of these Windows 3.x
- executables as execute only (and possibly read only).
-
- I then when to fire up Word for Windows.
-
- Everything worked fine, but when I went to exit WFW, it complained that
- it could not write the .INI file that I had marked as read only and
- execute only.
-
- That was all fine.
-
- I then set up some user directories and gave each user access to their
- own directory.
-
- Now when each user uses WFW, then can use the one executable and
- work on their own documents.
-
- The problem is that each user has a different set of WFW preferences
- and from what I can tell their is no way to set it up so that
- each user saves only their own preferences.
-
- One person likes the button bar, the other does not. What happends is that
- as the users log on and use WFW, they have to contantly reconfigure
- WFW to their preferences.
-
- - Is there any way to save the .INI file for WFW off in a separate user
- directory?
-
- What is even worse, given all of this security stuff, the list of
- the last 4 files that have been edited is kept at the bottom of the File
- menu. This is the last 4 from the last user. This means that uses A
- can set these to their last 4 files, and then user B comes along and
- not only can see the file names of which files were being edited, but
- then cannot have access to those files!
-
- So the general problem looks like how can you set up NT to allow separate
- preferences for each user of Windows 3.x and Windows NT apps?
- Are there APIs for this and is there a way to set up NT for the Windows 3.x
- case?
