  15. thought i'd install word for windows v2 on my nt system
  16. so i could look at .doc files and print them readily.

  18. well, i launched a:install from the first diskette
  19. and it whirred away just fine until just after starting
  20. the last diskette.  then everything stopped.  i could
  21. use the dask switch to switch to other jobs, but
  22. the installer seem to have croaked, taking the 
  23. floppy with it. when i tried to "dir" the floppy
  24. from a newly-launched file manager, touching
  25. the floppy drive was the kiss-o-death for that
  26. copy of the file manager.

  28. the weird part is that even after gunning down the
  29. errant processes from the task list, the DOS windows from
  30. which I had launched the a:install STAYED BEHIND no matter what!
  31. Nothing about it worked except the title bar
  32. which would highlight, but couldn't be dragged or anything.
  33. more amazingly, after logging out, when i logged-in again,
  34. the undead window frame came back!

  36. at that point i rebooted.  clearly the installer died
  37. in such a way that the win32 window server didn't hear
  38. about it and hence kept updating the decorations on the
  39. base window. this would seem to be a serious bug.

  41. at any rate, has anyone successfully installed WinWord2 under
  42. NT, and then did it run reliably after you did?? I tried
  43. running it and got all sorts of angry dialog boxes about
  44. how I killed the Win16 subsystem, etc, etc.
