  20.      I'm unable to get my Adaptec 1542 and ASPI4DOS to work with Win 3.1
  21. enhanced mode.  I've tried just about everything, including replacing
  22. virtually every hardware component except the 1542, HD, case, keyboard,
  23. and power supply.

  25.      This is really weird.  The 1542 and ASPI4DOS work flawlessly for
  26. some people, but not for others (like me).  I'd like to narrow this
  27. down, and so I'm going to take a survey, to see if there is some common
  28. cause.

  30.      If you have an Adaptec 1542 and have successfully or unsuccessfully
  31. used ASPI4DOS, I'd like to know what kind of hardware you are using.  If
  32. possible, I'd like to know the following:
  33.  
  34. * What kind of SCSI hard disk(s) are you using?  What is its capacity?
  35.   Who makes it?  Do you have more than one HD?
  36.  
  37. * Do you have any other SCSI devices attached to the 1542?  If so, what
  38.   are they?
  39.  
  40. * Do you have any other IDE, etc. drives?  If so, how many, who makes
  41.   them, and what are their capacities?
  42.  
  43. * Do you have a 1542A or a 1542B?  Do you know the 1542 ROM
  44.   version/date?
  45.  
  46. * Are the 1542 bus on/off times at the default setting?  If not, what
  47.   are they?
  48.  
  49. * Have you changed the 1542 default DMA/IRQ settings?  If so, what are
  50.   they?
  51.  
  52. * Are you using the 1542 with the DMA transfer speed at the default
  53.   setting?  If not, at what speed are you using the 1542?
  54.  
  55. * What kind of computer do you have?  A 386?  486?  25MHz?  33MHz?
  56.   SX/DX?  Who makes the PC?  Do you know who makes the motherboard or
  57.   what chipset is being used on the motherboard?
  58.  
  59. * If possible, can I get a copy of your config.sys and autoexec.bat?  If
  60.   not, can you answer the questions past this point?  *IMPORTANT*: if I
  61.   can get a copy of them, make sure that you DELETE or CHANGE any
  62.   PASSWORDS or other private information in the copies that you send to
  63.   me.  If you send me a copy, skip the questions past this point.

  65. * What version of ASPI4DOS are you using?  Do you know what switches, if
  66.   any, you pass to ASPI4DOS?

  68. * Do you use ASPIDISK.SYS?

  70. * Are you using SCSIHA.SYS?  (If you don't know what this is, don't
  71.   worry about it.)

  73. * Do you use a memory manager like QEMM or 386MAX?  If so, do you know

  76. * Do you use SMARTDRV and double-buffering?  (Yes, using this will make
  77.   everything work, but I'm curious as to how many people are using
  78.   this.)

  80. * Do you use any disk-compression programs like Stacker or Superstor?

  83. get any, I'll post a summary.  I'm sure a lot of people here will be
  84. very happy if we can solve this.  Also note that I'm doing this to solve
  85. a problem on my personal PC; I am not doing this on behalf of either
  86. Microsoft or Adaptec.
