- Hi, I might be able to help out a bit. I don't design houses but I am an
- estimator. From what I've seen Design Cad would be a good choice on the
- commercial side or PC Draft Cad shareware for design. None of these programs
- provide much in the way of estimating except for the ability to mark items
- which takes more time than doing it manually. In any case you're probably
- better off to locate a cheap draftsman working out of his house locally. They
- will usually have a good knowledge of what is needed by the local authorities.
- Expect to pay about 1% of expected cost at the highest.
- On the estimating side I have lots of tips and spreadsheet templates ( Quattro
- or Supercalc) that I can share. I make my living by doing framing takeoffs
- for the local lumberyards so I kind of know this area. I am in the process of
- moving though ( 16th Nov ) but I should be available either here or Email.
