- All,
-
- I have forwarded the following problem to Quarterdeck technical support,
- and want to hear from people experiencing the same problem, and if they
- have found any causes/solutions:
-
- - It is almost impossible, using DV/X telnet or PC/TCP tn/rlogin, to run an
- X client back on DV/X desktop -- usually crashes all of DV/X, requiring a
- cold restart
-
- - The above problem of DV/X crashing hard is not limited to the case of
- using a telnet or rlogin session to start an X client -- just about any
- kind of network activity (opening X windows on DV/X desktop with DV/X rsh
- or from another X window, opening DOS windows on a remote system with DV/X
- run or from the remote system itself using remsh/rsh, etc.) can cause
- disaster!!!
-
- PC/TCP 2.1 is working very well on this system, as all of its utilities
- never crash the machine or do the unexpected. Also, two different network
- interfaces, the Novell NE2000 16-bit and 3COM 3C503 Etherlink II 8-bit,
- have been tested with equal results (using Release 10.x Crynwyr packet
- drivers), to weed out potential hardware timing problems with the network
- interface. Nor have we had any problems of the kind with the workstation
- console X servers themselves or X displays, when trying the same operation.
-
- The setup of the system is *not* exotic -- here are the DOS startup files
- (stripped down to their bare minimum, yet still exhibiting the above
- problem), from which you will notice nothing whatsoever is high-loaded,
- Stealth RAM is not being used, and the compatibility configuration
- information from the earlier version of PC/TCP is present:
