- No, this isn't true. I ran Minix on a PS/2 model 55sx with no problems.
-
- 1) Minix will run on anything in BIOS mode. What this means is that
- it will run slower and you can't access memory over 1 meg (among other
- things).
-
- 2) It has microchannel support if you are using an ST-506 disk interface.
- If you don't, you have to run it using the BIOS option.
-
- I ran it using BIOS since I had a SCSI drive instead of an ST-506, but
- you can always write another driver for it (I was lazy).
-
- However, in general, I have found Minix works better and is easier to
- use on ISA machines (AT-bus). But this is a fact about microchannel
- in general (grr....), and there's nothing wrong with Minix.
-
- Microchannel is great when you finally get something to work with it,
- but getting something to work with it that doesn't cost twice an ISA
- solution is a different story (IMHO).
-
- Anyhow, given the choice, I liked running Minix better on an ISA bus
- rather than microchannel, but it can be done on either.
