- RSN :-). Actually, I might as well fill people in on where we stand.
- Right now there are no known bugs that affect data reliability, and the Adaptec
- has all of the patches that are required to goose up the performance. Someone
- ran iozone on a fresh partition, and got something like:
-
- >block w r
- > 1024 800 kB/s 650 kB/s
- > 4096 700 kB/s 750 kB/s
- >16384 800 kB/s 800 kB/s
-
- This is on a 486/33 (seems to be important - I know someone else with a
- 386-25 who is not getting close to these numbers). As I recall, these numbers
- were obtained with a 40Mb file/20Mb RAM. There is now a driver for the Adaptec
- 1740 running in enhanced mode, and scsi tape support has been integrated.
- Some people have tested dual disk and dual tape drive configurations, and
- everything seems to be working normally.
-
- All of the other host adapters are still be just as slow as before,
- but they should work. People are working on updating the other host adapters.
-
- There is one little annoying problem in that I am having trouble
- aborting a command with the Adaptec in such a way that it leaves the system
- usable. Most people would not even notice this, but for those that do it
- would be a real stick in the eye. There is an easy work-around, but it is
- too ad hoc to be used in a final release.
-
- I am considering making a more public release in a couple of days.
- Those people using the Adaptec will get the benefit of the higher speed,
- the rest of you will just have to wait (one way or the other :-).
