  14. I'm not going to the IETF, but I live in the DC area and would be
  15. interested in doing "a thing" with other Linux developers.

  17. Random background note // who's-who-and-what:

  19. Locally we have about 10 Linux systems running.  I bought a 486 system
  20. just to run Linux (after buying a 386 motherboard upgrade for a
  21. housemate's sytem to try it out -- wwc@super.org was trying it out and
  22. suggested that it was a better bet than my original intention of
  23. getting BSD).  I then put together a purchase of identical systems for
  24. five coworkers..  I've converted one of the research
  25. systems running BSDI at work to Linux, and hope to move a few others
  26. over from BSDI someday soon. That, along with three laptops
  27. conversions (two purchased just to run Linux!) and a few others just
  28. about convinced to convert their MS-DOS systems should make a
  29. reasonable local user community.

  31. My current work is on NE2000, NE1000, and 3C503 ethernet device
  32. drivers.  They still in the pre-alpha stage (ie the bugs are obvious
  33. enough that I can find them) but it should be ready before v1.00.  I also
  34. have written a Linux audio/generalized-character-device driver that is
  35. suitable for experimental work.  And I think my old NFS server is the
  36. basis for the currently Linux NFS server.

  38. My future work (once the ethernet drivers are working) is likely to be
  39. tuning the TCP/IP implementation, implementing an MEther NFS server
  40. (probably from scratch under the GPL rather than extensions to my old
  41. NFS server), and maybe playing with a log-structured file system.
