- While attempting to install the SLS 0.98 version of linux I have
- run into a problem loading disk a4 which displays as follows:
-
- error: you may have inserted the wrong disk, try again (y/n)?
-
- I go through the retry attempts with no resolution.
- I downloaded the SLS version from tsx-11.mit.edu in binary mode
- on 02 November. The a1 and a2 disks were copied to diskette via
- rawrite, and a3, a4 were put onto diskettes via the dos copy
- command. I did this from a unix file system mounted via PC-NFS
- to my pc. The error occurs after "diska3" has loaded, when attempting
- to load "diska4". I have set up my second disk, /dev/hdb, with the
- first partition being a linux swap partition of 8 megs. The second
- partition, /dev/hdb2, occupies the remainder, approx. 62 megs,
- of the drive. I have tried to use both a linux/minux type and now
- an extended linux type 83. In viewing the sysinstall script that
- is called by the doinstall script, I can see that for whatever reason
- the file "diska4" on the disk is not being seen. When I break out of the
- install and manually mount the disk "mount -r -t msdos /dev/fd0h1200 /tmp2"
- and view the contents, I not only see the file, but can also cat its
- contents. My questions to the community are, has this problem been seen
- before, and if so what resolution(s) if any is there to apply against
- the problem?
-
- Thanks in advance for your help with on this install problem.
