  10. This is a semi-offical announcement that alpha latin-1 patches for the
  11. Linux kernel are now available on sunsite.unc.edu.

  13. The filename is:  /pub/Linux/Incoming/latin1.tar.Z
  14.  
  15. The file includes a set of patches for the Linux 0.98-pl3 kernel, a patch
  16. for LILO version Alpha.6, a DOS-hosted font editor, a font "compiler", and
  17. a program called VDATA that determines the characteristics of your special
  18. video modes (if any).

  20. In order to make use of the latin-1 functions, you need an EGA, VGA or SVGA
  21. video board.  If you have an SVGA board that is not an ATI or Tseng, you
  22. will currently only get Latin-1 in "SuperVGA mode 00", which is 80x25.  If
  23. you mail me the results of the VDATA program, you will soon see all modes
  24. on your card properly supported.
