- This is a semi-offical announcement that alpha latin-1 patches for the
- Linux kernel are now available on sunsite.unc.edu.
-
- The filename is: /pub/Linux/Incoming/latin1.tar.Z
-
- The file includes a set of patches for the Linux 0.98-pl3 kernel, a patch
- for LILO version Alpha.6, a DOS-hosted font editor, a font "compiler", and
- a program called VDATA that determines the characteristics of your special
- video modes (if any).
-
- In order to make use of the latin-1 functions, you need an EGA, VGA or SVGA
- video board. If you have an SVGA board that is not an ATI or Tseng, you
- will currently only get Latin-1 in "SuperVGA mode 00", which is 80x25. If
- you mail me the results of the VDATA program, you will soon see all modes
- on your card properly supported.
-
- If you are getting this package I strongly urge you to join the NORMAL
- channel on the mailing list, as I do not intend to post to the newsgroup
- anything but major developments.
