- Thanks to all those who helped with my problem of not being locked
- out of "root" when I compiled 98p3. The "su" command didn't help
- because either my su was too old or it wasn't suid root. But I
- found my 0.97 boot disk and that let me in ok. The problem was
- that my /etc/securetty had somehow been removed, or maybe I never had
- one? I had some fun at one point, with a getty running on "console",
- which kinda disrupts one's work, but I did manage to remove the
- offending line from /etc/getty. :)
-
- Now I have two problems, with 0.98p3, that go away if I put back
- 0.98. (I am using the poeigl1.7 and admutl1.4 tools.)
-
- 1. I can no longer use * substitution in file names: for example,
- ls * returns a statement that the file or directory * doesn't
- exist.
-
- 2. When I log on, I am not put into my home directory. An error
- statement arises: "shell-init: getwd: cannot access parent
- directories". Does anyone even know where this error statement
- is, in the code? This error occurs occasionally when I do
- other things, too. Does it mean my shell-init function has
- the wrong permissions?
-
- Tim.
