- I uploaded the new poeigl and admutils packages the other day,
- and hit a few snags. I'm running 0.98.3 (with the urgent patch).
-
- Apart from having to comment out some conflicting definitions
- in admutils (trivial), everything compiled nicely. However, it
- seems to me that the installation process could be improved here.
-
- I would think that most people would be, like myself, upgrading
- rather than installing from scratch. I know i may be flamed for
- this, and yes, i do use "make -n install" before doing a *real*
- install, but i guess i didn't look closely enough at the output,
- because running "make install" will trash your /etc/inittab and
- /etc/shells files.
-
- As i run getty_ps, the form for inittab is different to that used with
- other gettys, and the result was that i couldn't reboot the system!
- (Thank heavens for hlu's bootable rootdisk!)
-
- It seems to me there should be a "make upgrade" or maybe
- "make Install" for a full installation.
-
- Also, "make install" spews out error messages about already existing
- files when trying to make the links to "halt", &c, although this is,
- of course, harmless.
-
- One more thing: at the end of the install, there's a
- "ln -s /dev/tty1 /dev/console", which is surely incorrect ... ?! My
- /dev/console is /dev/tty0 (not tty1 which is my first VT!)
